What microneedling can do

What is microneedling?

Microneedling (commonly called a collagen induction) is a non-surgical treatment that uses controlled micro-injuries to support collagen remodeling and smoother-looking texture over time.

A practice profile is a starting point. Ask who will treat you, how often they perform it, and what kind of change is realistic for your body. Before you book, independently confirm the clinician's license and relevant credentials.

Standard vs. RF microneedling

Standard microneedling focuses on texture and collagen remodeling. RF microneedling adds heat below the surface and may be used for deeper remodeling or mild laxity. That added energy makes settings, skin-tone planning, and provider experience especially important.

See whether it fits you

Could microneedling be a fit for me?

A good consultation makes room for your health, your goals, and the tradeoffs of the plan. You may be a reasonable candidate if:

  • You want gradual improvement in acne scars, texture, pores, fine lines, or shallow scars.
  • You understand that collagen remodeling takes time and often needs a series.
  • You are willing to follow aftercare and limit sun exposure while the skin barrier heals.
  • You can discuss pigment history, melasma, keloid tendency, medications, and recent procedures.

You deserve clear answers.

Online satisfaction percentages cannot predict your outcome. Before you decide, understand who will treat you, why this plan fits, what kind of result is realistic, what recovery may ask of you, and what the full cost includes.

Ask in the consultation

  • Which parts of the microneedling results I saved are realistic for my starting point?
  • What technique would you use for me, and what tradeoffs or alternatives should I understand?
  • Can we review settled results from patients whose starting point is meaningfully similar to mine?

Plan beyond the appointment

Microneedling recovery, step by step

1-3 days” is a planning estimate. Ask what you may feel or see at each stage and when the practice wants to hear from you.

  1. Same dayExpect redness, warmth, tightness, and a sunburn-like feeling. Keep skincare simple and follow the provider’s makeup instructions.
  2. Days 1–2Redness usually fades, but skin can feel dry, rough, or slightly swollen while the barrier recovers.
  3. Days 3–5Light flaking or texture can appear. Do not scrub it off; moisturize and protect the skin from sun.
  4. Weeks 4–6Many providers reassess or schedule the next session. Improvement comes from cumulative remodeling, not an overnight change.
  5. Months 3+Texture and scar improvement may keep building after a series, which is why consistent photos matter.

Your own timeline may be different. The practice should explain what is normal for you and when to check in.

Talk through the risks

Ask which risks apply to this treatment and to you. That may include infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in sensation, or unexpected healing. You should also know who to call and how the practice handles a complication.

Get ready without guessing

  • Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and irritating active skincare for the window your provider recommends.
  • Avoid arriving sunburned or freshly tanned, and ask for a pigment-safety plan if you have melasma or hyperpigmentation.
  • Disclose cold sores, active acne, isotretinoin use, keloid history, pregnancy, and recent laser, peel, filler, or injectable care.
  • Have gentle cleanser, moisturizer, clean pillowcases, and sunscreen ready for aftercare.

Know what the day includes

How long to block off. Ask how long the treatment takes, but check-in, preparation, recovery, and discharge instructions add time.

Comfort plan. Ask whether anesthesia or numbing is part of the plan. Ask who provides it and what the team does if you have an unexpected reaction.

Use the researched microneedling range as a starting point. Then ask for one written quote that includes the plan, follow-up, and anything that could change the price later.

Ask this out loud

“What could make my final cost higher or lower after you see me in person?”

What belongs in the quote

  • The provider’s fee and every facility, anesthesia, product, imaging, or preparation charge that applies.
  • Exactly which treatment, technique, materials, and related procedures the microneedling plan includes.
  • Follow-up visits, medications or supplies, maintenance, and how the practice handles revisions or unexpected care.

Find microneedling practices

Answer the questions the photos cannot.

Use these answers for a first pass. A qualified provider still needs to examine you, hear what you want, and explain the tradeoffs.

Are these Microneedling before and after photos real?+

Each result is tied to the practice that supplied or published it. Afters does not independently verify every consent record, image history, surgeon, or outcome. If a case matters to you, ask the practice who performed it, when the photos were taken, and whether the patient gave permission for publication.

How soon will I see Microneedling results?+

Microneedling results show up faster — often within 1-3 days — but timing still matters. Ask whether the after shows peak effect, maintenance, or a fresh treatment.

What should I look for in Microneedling before and after photos?+

Start with befores that share relevant features, then compare consistent angles, similar starting point, natural transitions. Published examples help you form questions; they do not verify the treating provider or predict your outcome.

Will my Microneedling results look like these?+

Your anatomy, skin, and treatment plan shape the outcome. Use these photos to find a direction, then ask a provider what is realistic for you.

How do I find a provider whose microneedling work fits me?+

Open the profile that published a result you like and compare several examples. Then ask who treated each case, whether it is comparable to yours, and how the image was documented.
