The tummy tuck scar is real and permanent, but it's designed to be hidden. The scar runs horizontally from hip to hip, placed low enough to be concealed by underwear and bikini bottoms. Initially (first few months), the scar is red/pink and raised. By 6-12 months, it fades significantly and flattens. At 1-2 years, most scars become thin, pale lines. Scar appearance depends on genetics, sun protection, and aftercare. We use techniques like layered closure and recommend silicone sheeting to optimize healing. Most patients feel the trade-off is worth it—a hidden scar in exchange for a flat, toned abdomen.
