Modern breast implants are designed to be long-lasting but are not considered "lifetime devices." Here's what the data shows: Most implants last 10-20 years before any intervention is needed. The FDA recommends screening for silicone implant integrity every 2-3 years after year 5. About 20% of patients need revision surgery within 10 years—often for personal preference (size change, lift) rather than implant failure. When revision is needed, it's usually a straightforward procedure. Bottom line: plan for the possibility of future surgery, but many patients keep their original implants for 15-20+ years without issues.
