Breast reduction cost: Breast Reduction Cost 2026

For breast reduction cost without insurance, the middle half of 91 practices’ own posted self-pay starting amounts falls from $9,500 to $13,500 in Afters’ source reading, checked October 17, 2026. Nearest-rank quartiles use the lowest eligible amount per website, from 92 eligible rows. The full eligible posted spread runs from Constance M. Barone MD in San Antonio, starting at $5,000 with fee inclusions unstated, to Henry Mentz MD in Houston at $18,000 to $25,000, including anesthesia, facility and surgical time but without explicit surgeon-fee wording. ASPS states, “The average cost of breast reduction (aesthetic patients only) is $7,800”; that is a surgeon fee, excludes anesthesia, operating-room and related expenses, and has no statistics year on the page. These posted prices are not a typical price, a representative national sample or a prediction of your bill.

What will your breast reduction bill cover?

For insured breast reduction, ASPS says patients can still owe deductibles or copayments, and PEHP says payment depends on the applicable deductible and benefit percentage of its maximum allowable fee. Ask your plan for coinsurance and out-of-network estimates separately from a cash quote. A 2025 MarketScan study of 8,660 outpatient reduction patients in 2021 reported a $523 median patient out-of-pocket cost; that historical insured amount is separate from self-pay prices.

  10. Does breast reduction with a lift cost more?Breast reduction with a lift does not have one established add-on price in the 16 eligible combination rows checked October 17, 2026; BeautyMDs posts $7,700 to $10,900 and Desert Hills posts $20,000 to $25,000 for their described plans.
  11. Tomiko Harvey on her patient-reported reduction billHow much does breast reduction with liposuction cost?Breast reduction with liposuction costs $30,000 to $40,000 in Karen Horton MD’s one eligible combined-plan row, while five eligible liposuction-only reduction rows describe a different scope, checked October 17, 2026.
  12. Does breast reduction technique or a combined operation change cost?Breast reduction technique and combined procedures change what you are pricing, but ASPS’s pedicle-versus-free-nipple-graft explanation supplies no technique surcharge, and the October 17, 2026 research has seven eligible rows for reduction combined with other operations.

  14. Can I finance breast reduction surgery?Breast reduction financing can spread payments while adding substantial interest, as four standard amortization illustrations using University of Utah Health’s $9,875 estimate show, checked October 17, 2026.
  15. What breast reduction recovery costs should I budget for?A breast reduction recovery budget should account for time away from heavy work because University of Utah’s breast-surgery instructions restrict heavy activity for three to four weeks, checked October 17, 2026.
  16. What should I ask before paying for breast reduction? Before paying for breast reduction, request a written estimate naming all expected providers and services because CMS’s Good Faith Estimate guidance, modified October 5, 2026, allows separate provider and facility estimates for uninsured or self-pay care.

Is the average breast reduction cost the whole bill?

ASPS’s $7,800 average breast reduction cost is an aesthetic-patient surgeon fee, with no statistics year stated on its cost page, checked October 17, 2026. It excludes anesthesia, operating-room and related expenses. The Aesthetic Society’s $6,308 is historical 2022 data with conflicting fee labels; CareCredit’s $8,579 is a lender-published average from a commissioned 2025–2026 study. These sources measure different things. None substitutes for a quote that names the operation, providers and services you’ll receive.

Three publishers, different measures

ASPS · $7,800

Average surgeon fee for aesthetic patients only. Its cost page gives no statistics year, fee denominator or sampling method; excludes anesthesia, operating-room and related expenses. Checked October 17, 2026.

The Aesthetic Society · $6,308

Historical 2022 databank figure. Associated-costs wording says surgeon and facility, with anesthesia potentially additional; its average-cost page uses both surgeon-fee and surgeon-and-facility labels. Denominator for this fee is not established in these pages.

CareCredit / Synchrony · $8,579

Lender-published national average; published range $5,624 to $14,581. October 9, 2026 article reports a commissioned ASQ360 study conducted in 2025–2026 across 50 states and DC. Not a practice quote or society survey; office visits and other expenses may be extra. The cited article does not establish a reduction-specific sample count.

The Aesthetic Society’s own average-cost page uses both surgeon-fee and surgeon-and-facility language; that ambiguity stays visible here. CareCredit publishes a range as well as an average, but those lender study figures are separate from practices’ own advertisements. We do not average these publishers together or call their difference a change in prices.

Ask your surgeon

“Which published fee, if any, matches the components of the quote you’re giving me?”

What does a self-pay breast reduction quote cover?

A breast reduction quote must name the operation because Cleveland Clinic describes different incision patterns and the October 17, 2026 price reading contains 92 eligible self-pay rows, 16 with lift, one with liposuction and five for liposuction alone. Those are separate scopes, not prices for interchangeable procedures. The anchor pattern extends down from the areola and along the breast fold; the vertical pattern omits the horizontal fold incision. Neither incision name, by itself, establishes what the bill includes.

A practice may explicitly include lifting, while another describes reshaping as part of reduction without a separate lift price. Ask whether side or bra-roll liposuction, implants or support material are planned. If the procedure description is unclear, get it clarified before treating a lower advertised amount as a cheaper version of your plan.

Ask your surgeon

“What exactly will you remove, lift or add in the operation this quote prices?”

Does breast reduction cost include anesthesia and facility fees?

Breast reduction cost does not always include anesthesia and facility fees, as Chicago Breast & Body Aesthetics’ $11,995 starting price excludes anesthesia while Scottsdale Plastic Surgery’s $13,800 ballpark reduction estimate includes surgeon, facility and anesthesiologist, checked October 17, 2026. A price labeled surgeon-only should stay separate from a total; a page that does not state its inclusions should stay marked unknown until the practice supplies them.

An operating-day total can still leave tests, prescriptions, garments or pathology outside it. Ask who sends each bill and what operating time the estimate assumes. Do not add another practice’s anesthesia price to your surgeon’s fee to invent a personal total. If a practice says everything is included, ask it to identify those components in writing rather than relying on the phrase alone.

Ask your surgeon

“Does this total include my surgeon, anesthesia provider and facility for the planned operating time?”

Understand the quote

Does breast reduction cost include pathology, bras and prescriptions?

Breast reduction pathology, bras and prescriptions can be extra even when major surgical fees are included, according to Scottsdale Plastic Surgery, Delgado, BeautyMDs and University of Utah Health, checked October 17, 2026. Their four posted examples differ: Nachbar adds hospital and pathologist charges; Delgado includes garments; BeautyMDs excludes them; Utah excludes prescriptions. BeautyMDs’ price explicitly includes a lift, so it cannot be substituted for the other examples as though all four price the same scope.

Ask who bills for each item

Pathology is a separate question

Scottsdale Plastic Surgery’s $13,800 reduction estimate adds hospital and pathologist pathology charges. A total covering the major operating fees can still leave these out.

Garments vary by practice

Delgado’s starting $16,000 includes supplies, garments and visits. BeautyMDs’ $7,700 to $10,900 reduction-with-lift estimate excludes garments, drugs, labs, mammograms and revision fees. Different scopes; neither defines everyone’s extras.

An estimate may exclude prescriptions

University of Utah Health’s $9,875 estimate, reviewed November 2025 and checked October 17, 2026, excludes additional procedures and prescriptions. Its major-fee breakdown is not stated.

Pathology means examination of removed tissue; ask about the billing before surgery rather than assuming it is covered by the operating-room fee. There is no universal shopping allowance in these sources, and an item from someone else’s recovery diary is not automatically part of your care plan.

Ask your surgeon

“Which pathology bills, garments, tests and prescriptions will I pay for outside this quote?”

Insurance and your share

Does insurance cover breast reduction surgery?

Insurance may cover breast reduction under plan-specific criteria, but Aetna CPB 0017, reviewed March 12, 2026, and SelectHealth policy 172, revised July 29, 2026, use different complete pathways. Aetna’s macromastia pathway includes at least two listed symptom areas for at least one year and a physician-documented therapeutic trial of at least three months, plus its other conditions. SelectHealth’s commercial/CHIP pathway has its own documentation, conservative-treatment and tissue standards. A gram amount or pain alone does not establish eligibility.

Policy examples, not a universal checklist

Aetna CPB 0017

Original effective October 6, 1995; last review March 12, 2026. The macromastia pathway requires all its conditions, including persistent symptoms in at least two listed areas affecting daily activity for at least one year and a physician-documented therapeutic trial lasting at least three months. Photos and its own tissue table also matter.

SelectHealth policy 172

Recovered policy reviewed April 16, 2026 and revised July 29, 2026. Its commercial/CHIP pathway includes independent-practitioner documentation, unsuccessful recommended/provided conservative treatment, no competing condition more likely to cause or significantly contribute to symptoms, and the printed tissue standard. The alternate weight table is available only with BMI below 30.

Read the complete policy for your product

These are excerpts, not the full eligibility rules. Prior authorization, the member benefit and final claim are distinct questions. Plans differ; check your own plan. Policy text is not a coverage guarantee.

This is the short coverage chapter; the candidacy and insurance guides carry the full payer-by-payer rules. Ask the office to identify your actual plan, product, policy version and required authorization documents. A benefit exclusion and a medical-necessity denial can require different next steps. HealthCare.gov explains internal appeals and independent external review without promising that an excluded benefit becomes covered. Plans differ; check your own plan. Policy text is not a coverage guarantee.

Ask your surgeon

“Which current policy applies to my plan, and who will submit the complete authorization request?”

Insurance and your share

How much does breast reduction cost with insurance?

For insured breast reduction, ASPS says patients can still owe deductibles or copayments, and PEHP says payment depends on the applicable deductible and benefit percentage of its maximum allowable fee. Ask your plan for coinsurance and out-of-network estimates separately from a cash quote. A 2025 MarketScan study of 8,660 outpatient reduction patients in 2021 reported a $523 median patient out-of-pocket cost; that historical insured amount is separate from self-pay prices.

An insured patient estimate needs its own lines

Historical patient payment

Seyidova and colleagues’ 2025 study used 8,660 MarketScan outpatient reduction patients in 2021. Median patient out-of-pocket cost was $523; median total payment was $8,097. These are different measures and neither is a current cash quote.

Deductible and benefit percentage

PEHP’s reduction policy, effective December 18, 2023 with next review November 16, 2026, says some employer groups cover reduction, preauthorization is required, and payment depends on the applicable deductible and benefit percentage of its maximum allowable fee.

Coinsurance and out-of-network questions

Ask the plan for a patient-share estimate for the named surgeon, facility, anesthesia provider and pathologist. Ask which are in network and what changes if one is out of network. Do not estimate your percentage from a practice’s advertised cash price.

The study’s median total payment was $8,097, a different measure from the patient’s $523 median share. Its outpatient claims, published in 2025, do not predict a 2026 patient bill, and its abstract does not establish an adult-only age distribution. PEHP’s effective December 18, 2023 policy explicitly ties benefits to the deductible and applicable percentage. Ask the insurer for your remaining deductible, coinsurance, network status and responsibility for excluded cosmetic additions. Plans differ; check your own plan. Policy text is not a coverage guarantee.

Ask your surgeon

“Can your billing team and my insurer estimate my own share for every named provider, including any out-of-network service?”

How much does breast reduction cost in different US cities?

Breast reduction prices by city vary in the 92 eligible self-pay rows checked October 17, 2026, including Cox Cosmetic Surgery in Frisco at $6,500 to $7,000 and JL Plastic Surgery in Boston at $13,500 to $17,800, both classified as including surgeon, facility and anesthesia. The figure lists 37 selected self-pay rows individually by metro, including both full-spread anchors. It does not calculate a city average, rank cities or establish that the advertised operation would match your own plan.

How much does breast reduction cost in Utah?

Utah breast reduction prices include University of Utah Health’s $9,875 estimate in Salt Lake City and York Yates MD’s $16,000 to $18,000 cash-discount incisional reduction in Layton, checked October 17, 2026. These are two distinct own-price observations among eight Utah rows; two other rows repeat them. Peak’s $9,000 to $11,000 in Draper explicitly includes a lift, and Yates’ $11,000 female liposuction-only reduction is a separate operation. The major-fee inclusions for those own prices are not established.

Utah’s estimate was reviewed in November 2025 and excludes additional procedures and prescriptions. Yates’ augmentation fee inclusions cannot be transferred to reduction. Crofts in Lindon describes a $11,000 to $15,000 market range with lift; it is not a personal offer. Cascade in Orem describes an open market range across techniques, not an own-price surgery starting at its lower endpoint. The duplicate pairs stay labeled in the figure so eight rows never become eight independent Utah quotes.

Does breast reduction with a lift cost more?

Breast reduction with a lift does not have one established add-on price in the 16 eligible combination rows checked October 17, 2026; BeautyMDs posts $7,700 to $10,900 and Desert Hills posts $20,000 to $25,000 for their described plans. BeautyMDs includes the major operating fees but excludes specified extras, while Desert Hills’ fee breakdown is unstated. Those examples price combined operations at different practices, so subtracting them from another practice’s reduction price would not isolate a lift charge.

Reduction with lift, kept apart

16 eligible own-fee rows checked October 17, 2026. An explicit reduction-with-lift description is not a separately priced lift surcharge. Practices may describe reshaping differently; ask what each quoted operation contains.

The coding of these source rows follows what each page explicitly includes; it does not imply that the ordinary self-pay rows never reshape or raise a breast. Neither these advertisements nor an incision drawing can tell you which operation you personally need.

Ask your surgeon

“Is the lifting you propose part of this reduction price, or is any separate service being charged?”

How much does breast reduction with liposuction cost?

Breast reduction with liposuction costs $30,000 to $40,000 in Karen Horton MD’s one eligible combined-plan row, while five eligible liposuction-only reduction rows describe a different scope, checked October 17, 2026. Horton’s San Francisco plan includes an auto-augmentation lift and armpit/bra-roll liposuction, with major-fee inclusions unstated. Liposuction-only examples include Laser Lipo and Veins at $3,000 to $7,000 and York Yates MD at $11,000; the first states no separate facility or anesthesia fee and the second does not establish inclusions.

One eligible own-fee row: Horton’s combined lift and armpit/bra-roll liposuction plan. Fee breakdown unstated; checked October 17, 2026.

Liposuction-only breast reduction

Five eligible own-fee rows checked October 17, 2026. Different scope from incisional reduction; no technique ranking or eligibility conclusion follows from the price.

Side liposuction added to an incisional reduction and liposuction used as the only reduction method are different questions. The source set does not support promising equivalent lifting, skin removal or coverage across those methods. The liposuction guide covers that operation; your surgeon needs to explain the specific role of liposuction in your proposed reduction.

Ask your surgeon

“Are you quoting liposuction alone or liposuction added to reduction, and which areas and fees does it include?”

Price the exact operation

Does breast reduction technique or a combined operation change cost?

Breast reduction technique and combined procedures change what you are pricing, but ASPS’s pedicle-versus-free-nipple-graft explanation supplies no technique surcharge, and the October 17, 2026 research has seven eligible rows for reduction combined with other operations. A nipple kept on a tissue connection differs from a detached free graft. The incision drawing does not establish which connection is retained. A price page that merely says reduction cannot settle that choice or a personal quote.

Other operations combined with reduction

Seven eligible combination rows checked October 17, 2026. Implants, a tummy tuck and shaping liposuction change what is priced. DeLuca’s printed upper examples remain open; pathology is extra at Nachbar. No package is used to set the reduction-only spread.

The attached-versus-detached distinction belongs in the consultation because ASPS describes sensory loss and longer healing as free-graft trade-offs in some very large breasts. Separately, the package prices below add implants or abdominal work. DeLuca’s upper examples remain open, and Nachbar’s implant combinations still add pathology. If your goal is male chest reduction, use the gynecomastia guide; these female breast-reduction advertisements do not establish that procedure’s fees.

Ask your surgeon

“Which nipple technique and additional operations are planned, and how does each appear on my quote?”

Plan what you’ll pay

What do patients say they paid for breast reduction?

Patient-reported breast reduction prices in the October 17, 2026 reading comprise 19 observations from six sources, including an insured Chicago copay of $1,000 and a self-pay southeastern Ohio report of about $8,500; they are not practice quotes or a price distribution. HealthyWomen’s Chicago story does not establish an operative year, and the Ohio discussion places surgery in May 2025. The figure separates insured observations from self-pay and unresolved payment status, and labels quotes separately from paid reports.

Jamie’s $10,500 includes an internal bra but no itemized major-fee breakdown.

Ask your surgeon

“Which parts of this patient’s reported bill match my operation and payment pathway, and which do not?”

Plan what you’ll pay

Can I finance breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction financing can spread payments while adding substantial interest, as four standard amortization illustrations using University of Utah Health’s $9,875 estimate show, checked October 17, 2026. At 17.90% APR over 24 months the illustration is $492.52 monthly and $11,820.56 total; at 20.90% over 60 months it is $266.60 monthly and $15,995.80 total. These use rates printed in the saved October 2026 Alphaeon agreement, not an individual loan offer or the card’s actual billing formula.

One posted estimate, four standard amortization illustrations

24 months · 17.90% APR

$9,875.00 principal; $492.52 monthly; $11,820.56 total; $1,945.56 interest. Final payment $492.60 reconciles the rounded schedule. Based on BR009; checked October 17, 2026. No down payment or fees assumed.

36 months · 18.90% APR

$9,875.00 principal; $361.48 monthly; $13,013.25 total; $3,138.25 interest. Final payment $361.45 reconciles the rounded schedule. Based on BR009; checked October 17, 2026. No down payment or fees assumed.

48 months · 19.90% APR

$9,875.00 principal; $299.97 monthly; $14,398.75 total; $4,523.75 interest. Final payment $300.16 reconciles the rounded schedule. Based on BR009; checked October 17, 2026. No down payment or fees assumed.

60 months · 20.90% APR

$9,875.00 principal; $266.60 monthly; $15,995.80 total; $6,120.80 interest. Final payment $266.40 reconciles the rounded schedule. Based on BR009; checked October 17, 2026. No down payment or fees assumed.

These are formula illustrations at rates in the saved October 2026 Alphaeon agreement, not actual card billing, lender offers or approval predictions. Totals use full-precision payments before rounding.

The live Alphaeon page was a bot challenge during recheck; the saved agreement supports the rates. Actual payment rules include rounding and differ from these formula examples. CFPB warns that deferred-interest promotions may charge accrued interest from the original purchase if the balance is not fully paid by the deadline, and minimum payments may leave a balance. Compare your disclosed APR, total repayment and payoff conditions.

Ask your surgeon

“What exact APR, payment rules, total repayment and promotional payoff conditions would apply to my breast reduction balance?”

Plan what you’ll pay

What breast reduction recovery costs should I budget for?

A breast reduction recovery budget should account for time away from heavy work because University of Utah’s breast-surgery instructions restrict heavy activity for three to four weeks, checked October 17, 2026. Those instructions cover reduction and augmentation; they are guidance, not a measured return-to-work distribution. They do not price lost wages, childcare, transport or recovery supplies. Start with your actual duties and your surgeon’s restrictions before deciding how much cash you can commit to surgery and monthly repayments.

Work and income

University of Utah’s breast-surgery instructions restrict heavy activity for three to four weeks. Your actual job and clearance determine the work plan; no wage-loss allowance is assumed.

Help and transport

Ask who will take you home, help with lifting tasks and attend follow-up. Enter your own costs rather than a generic recovery package.

Only the supplies your team requests

Check which bras, dressings and prescriptions are supplied. Do not turn someone else’s shopping list into required care.

Unexpected care

Ask where you would be seen for a healing concern and who bills for that visit. The research does not price an emergency reserve.

Desk work and physical work can create different practical costs without supporting one universal leave duration. Price only the supplies your team requests and check which are already included. A longer trip or extra visit could change your own budget, but these sources do not establish an allowance. Use the recovery guide for the full activity discussion and the linked six-month story for one patient’s perspective.

Ask your surgeon

“Given my actual work and home duties, what help, visits and supplies should I arrange before paying the balance?”

Plan what you’ll pay

What should I ask before paying for breast reduction?

Before paying for breast reduction, request a written estimate naming all expected providers and services because CMS’s Good Faith Estimate guidance, modified October 5, 2026, allows separate provider and facility estimates for uninsured or self-pay care. Ask about revisions and complication care as written terms alongside the planned operation.

Take the same questions to every consultation

Exact operation and fee basis

Write reduction alone, reduction with lift, liposuction-only or the named combination. Record surgeon, anesthesia, facility, pathology, garments and visit terms in separate fields.

Written self-pay estimate

CMS guidance, modified October 5, 2026 and checked October 17, says uninsured or self-pay patients generally can request a Good Faith Estimate, including when scheduling at least three business days ahead. Estimates may come separately from providers and facilities.

Revision, cancellation and extra time

There are zero retained revision-price rows in this October 17, 2026 research set. Ask for written revision and complication-care terms, any extra operating-time charges, quote expiry, deposit and cancellation terms. Do not assume a repeat operation is included.

Insurance and borrowing

Keep authorization and patient-share estimates with your quote. If borrowing, retain the actual APR, required payment, total repayment and promotion deadline. A payment plan does not resolve an unpriced surgery component.

Record the exact procedure, fee inclusions, validity date, deposit, cancellation terms and any charge for additional operating time. For insured care, keep the plan’s authorization and patient-share estimate separate from a cosmetic cash quote. Ask what would happen financially if the final operation or tissue weight differs from the authorization; this packet has no documented final bill that resolves every such case. Review borrowing only after the surgery amount and remaining unknown charges are clear.

Ask your surgeon

“Can you give me the complete written quote, exclusions, follow-up and revision terms before I pay a deposit?”

How these breast reduction prices were read

Practice advertisements were rechecked October 17, 2026. Every printed amount keeps its scope and fee basis. This is a source reading, not a representative national price survey.

One website, one starting point

The opening uses the lowest eligible self-pay reduction amount per normalized website, then nearest-rank quartiles. There are 92 eligible rows and 91 websites. Starting floors and open upper examples remain open; surgeon-only and unspecified inclusions are not silently converted into totals.

Separate evidence types

Practice prices, published benchmarks, historical insured claims, patient-reported observations and financing arithmetic remain separate. The audit retained 196 KEEP/FIX price rows; four closure-related rows were dropped. Selection for the public charts does not erase the excluded rows or their reasons.

Stories have limits

Nineteen patient-reported observations come from six sources, with possible repeat diaries, uncertain dates and unitemized bills. Sources are not independent people or rates. The supplied voices research has incomplete full-thread coverage; no prevalence or typical-payment claim is made from those discussions.

Borrowing and video dates

Four loan examples use standard amortization and a posted principal; totals are rounded independently from monthly payments. Actual card terms differ. Videos retain their original dates and individual scope, and play only after a public Mux asset is available.

Plans differ; check your own plan. Policy text is not a coverage guarantee. Posted prices can change; obtain your own written estimate and provider-specific patient-share calculation.
